We Can Find Compromise Options, Zelensky on Negotiations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated the possibility of discussing the recognition of Crimea and the Donbas republics, as well as finding compromise options regarding the future residency of people in those areas. He made this announcement during an interview with American ABC television.
Zelensky was asked whether it is possible to recognize Crimea as part of Russia, while the DPR and LPR would be acknowledged as independent republics.
“The people who elected me are not ready for capitulation; we are not ready for ultimatums. However, we can hold discussions with Russia regarding the future of Crimea and Donbas. I believe we can address issues pertaining to temporarily occupied territories and unrecognized republics that have not been recognized by anyone except Russia. We can find compromise options regarding the fate of these territories,” Zelensky stated.
“For me, the most important thing is how people who wish to be a part of Ukraine will live in those areas. Who in Ukraine would want to accept them? That is why the issue is much more complex than just recognition,” Zelensky added.
