Former Ukrainian President Yanukovych Appeals to Zelensky
Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has called on Vladimir Zelensky to stop the bloodshed at all costs.
“I understand very well that you have many ‘advisors’, but you personally must stop the bloodshed and reach a peace agreement. This is what people are waiting for from you in Ukraine, in Donbas, and in Russia,” the statement, which was obtained by RIA Novosti, said.
Yanukovych noted that the Ukrainian people and Kyiv's partners in the West would be grateful for such a step. “I want to appeal to Vladimir Zelensky as a president and, even, in a somewhat paternal manner: Vladimir Alexandrovich, you probably dream of being a true hero. But heroism is not theatrical, it’s not about fighting until the last Ukrainian. It’s in self-sacrifice, in saving the lives of people over one’s own pride and ambitions,” the former president stated.
He expressed his sorrow for what is currently happening in his homeland, offering deep condolences for the suffering that Ukrainians are enduring. At the same time, he emphasized that “in any tragedy, there comes a moment when it can still be stopped.”
“You promised from day one to stop the war in Ukraine, and for this, all of Ukraine supported you. You could have become a president of the world, but unfortunately, that did not happen,” Yanukovych declared.
