UPDATE: Fire Near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Extinguished, No Casualties Reported
The fire that broke out near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been extinguished. There are no reports of casualties or injuries. This was reported by Sputnik Near Abroad.
Earlier, it was announced that heavy fighting had occurred in Ukraine near the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The Nexta Live Telegram channel has published videos depicting the battles. It was noted that a building of the educational complex was burned down as a result of shelling in the area of the nuclear plant. The fire broke out on the third floors of a five-story building.
According to the Telegram channel, the power plant has six energy blocks, and the fire extinguishing situation at the site is currently normal. Enerhodar Mayor Dmitry Orlov has stated that there are injured individuals at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Orlov reported in the early morning hours that shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant had ceased. As informed by Ukraine’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, 40 people and 10 units of equipment are involved in the firefighting efforts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Regional administration head Alexander Starukh has indicated that residents of Enerhodar will not be evacuated at this time due to the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
