Poland Decides to Abandon Russian Coal

Poland intends to abandon coal imports. The country is requesting permission for an embargo from Russia and the European Commission. This was announced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during a joint press conference with European Council President Charles Michel, as reported by lenta.ru.

"I once again ask the European Commission to decide on an embargo against Russian coal. I only need one thing—a promise from the EU that Poland will not abandon this action. And at that moment, we will be ready to impose an embargo on Russian coal," emphasized the Prime Minister.

Morawiecki also stated that Poland is negotiating with Australia regarding coal supplies to replace Russian coal as quickly as possible.

In February, Polish energy company PGNiG filed a counterclaim against Gazprom in the Stockholm court due to high gas prices. The company demanded recognition of the current supply price in their contract as excessively high and sought to reduce it.
