Human Rights Defender on Armenian Soldier Captured in Ukraine
Recently, the hotline of the Human Rights Defender has been receiving calls from Armenian citizens and ethnic Armenians concerning the protection of their rights amidst the ongoing military operations in Ukraine. This information has been confirmed by the Office of the Human Rights Defender.
The Defender’s office is taking necessary measures based on the specific issues raised, including providing consultations and directly addressing the problem to the relevant department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the appropriate consular institution.
Recently, a video has circulated widely in the Armenian online space, featuring a captured injured soldier, allegedly of Armenian descent, named Hayk Tsaturyan.
In connection with this incident, the Human Rights Defender’s institution has established contact with the Office of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights as well as the Armenian Embassy in Ukraine. They have been provided with all information about the case known to the Defender.
Simultaneously, the Defender’s office is making efforts to gather additional information regarding the person depicted in the video. If necessary, the Defender’s office will issue further updates.
