Kremlin Considers Zelensky the Legitimate President of Ukraine: A Question for Peskov
The Kremlin has stated that they consider Vladimir Zelensky the legitimate president of Ukraine. "Yes, he is the president of Ukraine," said Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday. This was in response to a question from reporters regarding whether the Kremlin continues to view Zelensky as the legitimate president of Ukraine. This information was reported by Interfax.
Peskov noted that the Ukrainian president could issue an order (to the Ukrainian armed forces) to lay down their arms, which would prevent casualties. The Kremlin representative was asked to address the question of whether it believes Kyiv is currently under the control of Nazi forces.
Peskov responded, “I cannot answer this question; it is necessary to contact the Ministry of Defense, as I am not informed about the situation on the ground.” He also mentioned that after the first round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, there are currently no scheduled communications between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.
The first phase of negotiations took place the day before and lasted about five hours. After the meeting, Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation and presidential aide, stated that representatives from both countries would consult with their leaderships before the negotiations are continued.
