The military leadership of Ukraine has held talks with their Belarusian counterparts twice. The Ukrainian military leadership was warned about possible special operations but did not take any steps, stated Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during an operational briefing with military officials. Lukashenko inquired with Belarusian Defense Minister V. Khrenin whether he had communicated with his Ukrainian counterpart about the necessity of establishing a connection with the Russian General Staff. Khrenin responded that he had followed Lukashenko's directive and contacted his Ukrainian counterpart. However, the Ukrainian minister did not make a call.

“Listen, after all, there have been cases in history when Khrushchev called Kennedy at night to prevent a nuclear war. And here, please tell me, was it difficult to make a call, to pick up the receiver? A scoundrel!” Lukashenko emphasized.

The Belarusian leader noted that the Ukrainian military leadership has negotiated with the Belarusian side twice, the last conversation occurring after the meeting between the presidents of Belarus and Russia in Moscow. The details of the negotiations between the state leaders were conveyed to the Ukrainian side.

It is recalled that the situation in Donbas escalated on February 17. On February 19, the leaders of the LPR and DPR signed mobilization decrees and then appealed to Russia for recognition.
