Has the Omicron Strain Turned COVID-19 into a Seasonal Virus? Expert Analysis

Thanks to the Omicron strain, COVID-19 has transformed into a seasonal virus, characterized by the rapid spread and shift of dangerous mutations across the globe. This opinion was expressed in an interview with TASS by immunologist and expert in particularly dangerous infections, Vladislav Zhemchugov.

“Omicron will gradually suppress all previous, more dangerous variants and will spread throughout the entire planet. And this will end the process. Many countries have already legally recognized it as socially safe. This means that it has truly become a seasonal virus,” the expert stated.

According to him, it is still necessary to get vaccinated against coronavirus, as unvaccinated individuals experience more severe cases of the disease.
