Peskov on Recognition of LPR and DPR

Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has stated that Russia recognizes the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) and the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) within the borders in which these republics declared independence. Peskov also noted that despite the recognition by the Russian Federation, the situation in these republics remains tense.

“Many citizens feel a sense of danger, and therefore have decided to temporarily relocate to Russia,” Peskov told reporters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed Russian citizens in a message following an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council on February 21, stating that it is essential to make a decision to immediately recognize the sovereignty of the LPR and DPR, as those who have chosen the path of bloodshed, violence, and illegality do not recognize and will not accept any other solution to the Donbass conflict aside from military action.
