3 Children in Intensive Care Unit with COVID-19
Three children infected with coronavirus and in relatively serious condition are currently in the intensive care unit in Armenia. This was stated by Sergey Sargsyan, a pediatric consultant at the Ministry of Health, during a press conference.
“We know that the Omicron strain is currently circulating in Armenia, and it relatively affects children more. The peak incidence of this strain in our country occurred between January and February, when a total of 189 cases of children under 18 were identified within a two-week period with the Omicron strain,” said Sargsyan.
According to him, approximately 190 children are currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the republic. The specialist emphasized that there has been a decrease in the number of cases from February 1 to 20, which has also impacted the operations of hospitals.
Addressing the clinical aspects of the problem, Sargsyan noted that as expected, the Omicron strain has led to upper respiratory tract infections in children and has mainly not reached the lungs. In this illness, a characteristic has also been observed: laryngotracheitis and croup diseases have developed, and in some cases, it has been somewhat difficult to manage. There have also been gastrointestinal disturbances and various skin conditions.
