Video: Investigative Committee Releases Footage of Horrific Accident in Abovyan
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has released footage from a tragic traffic accident that occurred in the city of Abovyan on February 20. It has been revealed that the 28-year-old driver of a BMW X5 was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
On February 20, around 8 PM, vehicles involved in the collision included an Opel Vectra B (driver: V. K.), a BMW X5 (driver: S. D., born in 1969), and a VAZ-2106 (driver: V. P., born in 1976) near the Republican Anti-Tuberculosis Dispensary.
Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the casualties. The victims included the driver of the VAZ-2106 and four passengers: A. P. (born in 1982), V. P. (born in 2005), G. P. (born in 1957), and M. G. (born in 1988).
A 15-year-old female passenger from the VAZ-2106 sustained severe cranial injuries and was transported to the St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center, currently in an unconscious state.
The Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under the third part of Article 242 of the RA Criminal Code, concerning violations of road safety requirements that resulted in the death of two or more individuals due to negligence.
During the investigation, various necessary investigative and procedural actions were conducted, including an examination of the accident scene, seizures, the appointment of forensic expertise, and the questioning of several individuals. Footage from available surveillance cameras at the scene has been seized for examination.
The 28-year-old driver of the BMW X5 has been arrested on suspicion of committing a crime as defined by the third part of Article 242 of the Criminal Code and has provided a self-incriminating testimony. The investigation is ongoing.
