US Secretary of State Proposes Meeting with Lavrov
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that he sent a letter to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday, proposing to hold an in-person meeting next week. This was reported by Interfax.
"I sent a letter to Lavrov today, suggesting we meet next week in Europe to discuss the steps we can take to resolve the crisis without conflict," Blinken said during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
He clarified that he suggested holding sessions within the framework of the NATO-Russia Council and the OSCE Permanent Council. "This could be the beginning of reaching an understanding in the context of de-escalation at a summit of key leaders," he emphasized.
Recently, Blinken and Lavrov had two phone conversations on February 12 and 15.
