Resignations Parade: What is Happening in Syunik
According to the newspaper "Hraparak," we have learned from Syunik that the Deputy Governor of Syunik, Narek Babayan, has submitted his resignation. The Prime Minister signed the dismissal order in the evening. He is transferring to the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine.
In the coming days, Governor Melikset Poghosyan and another Deputy Governor, Karo Avanesyan, will also be dismissed. The government is dissatisfied with the work of Syunik's leadership, and they have been searching for a replacement for the governor for a long time. They want to find someone who can unify the region and can manage public protests during the upcoming unblocking and territorial concessions.
We have learned that Poghosyan submitted a "bulletin" two days ago to delay his dismissal as much as possible. He conveyed to us that he is working and said there had been no discussion about his resignation. He did not deny health issues but stated, "I am carrying out the works towards Goris and Sisian. Yes, there are some health issues, but I will recover in the upcoming week."
In order not to create negative sentiments against the government with these dismissals in the region, these individuals will not be left unemployed. Narek Babayan is being sent to the ZPCM to serve as the government's eyes and ears regarding the management of the 15 percent share dedicated to the government by the owner.
As for the next governor of Syunik, two candidates are being discussed: ruling party MPs Davit Danielyan and Karen Sarukhanyan. However, local mayors are categorically opposed to Sarukhanyan's candidacy, as he cannot become an acceptable leader. Nevertheless, our sources from the ruling party do not rule out that Pashinyan may appoint him as governor for a few months while sending another party member to the National Assembly in his place.
