It has been announced that a procurement process for the construction works of a 60 km road segment of the North-South road corridor from Sisian to Kajaran has commenced. This was reported by the Road Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia.
During today’s government meeting, Minister Gnel Sanosyan spoke about the announced start of the pre-qualification stage for the Sisian-Kajaran section of the North-South highway, noting that it is currently possible to travel at an average speed of 50 km/h on the existing road from Sisian to Kajaran. Following the construction of the new road, this speed is expected to double.
The implementation of the investment program for the construction of the Sisian-Kajaran road segment has been designated as a priority by the Armenian government as per decision No. 1564-A dated September 24, 2021.
The pre-qualification procedure for procurement is being conducted under the rules established by the international competition of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development within the ICB “Two-Stage Open Competition with Pre-Qualification” framework.
It should be noted that a new road segment of the 2nd technical category is planned to be constructed along the Sisian-Kajaran section, totaling approximately 60 km, which includes 27 bridges with a total length of 4.7 km and 9 tunnels totaling 12.5 km in length (the longest being the Bargushat tunnel at approximately 8.6 km).
The deadline for submitting competitive bids is April 27, 2022, at 16:00 (Yerevan time).
