Motion Filed to Release Judge Boris Bakhshiyan on Bail
Motion has been filed to release Boris Bakhshiyan, a judge of the Syunik Region's Court of General Jurisdiction, on bail. Lawyer Arsen Sardarayan shared on his Facebook page that a hearing on the motion submitted by the defense to replace the measure of detention with bail for Judge Bakhshiyan will take place today at 17:00, presided over by Judge A. Shiroyan.
It should be noted that criminal prosecution is being conducted against Judge Boris Bakhshiyan (whose powers are currently suspended) for imprisoning a supporter of Nikol Pashinyan who testified against Manvel Paramazyan, even though the accused himself exhibited inappropriate behavior by failing to appear at court sessions. Furthermore, the prosecution has not appealed this decision, and months after the judicial act was made without an appeal, criminal prosecution against the judge was initiated.
The judge has been charged under the third part of Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Armenia for the illegal arrest of a person, which has caused serious consequences. As part of the criminal case, the NSS has filed a motion with the court to select detention as a preventive measure against the judge, which was accepted on February 7 by Judge Davit Arghamanyan.
