Israel to Supply Morocco with $500 Million in Air Defense Systems

Israel will supply Morocco with air defense systems worth $500 million, according to Israel Hayom. The contract with Israel Aerospace followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation between the two countries last November.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will deliver Barak MX anti-air and missile defense systems as part of the deal.

Morocco had requested the supply of these systems and other equipment during a visit by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz to the country. During the visit, Gantz signed a memorandum of understanding with his Moroccan counterpart.

According to sources, IAI's CEO Boaz Levi made a secret visit to Morocco to discuss the capabilities of the system and finalize the details of the deal.

Morocco has tense relations with Algeria and is concerned about attacks from radical actors in the region.
