Ethnic Minorities Stage Protest in Front of UN Office
Ethnic minorities held a protest in front of the UN office, voicing their opposition to the violence occurring in Turkey. The Yazidi and Kurdish populations are denied even the right to free speech and the right to speak in their own languages. We are here to appeal to international bodies to defend the rights of our brothers and prevent genocide against us, stated Kurdish MP Knyaz Hasanov of the 'Civil Contract' faction.
He emphasized that in Armenia, they have their rights, enjoy freedom, and are very grateful that their rights are being protected here.
The participants of the protest took to the streets carrying images of Abdullah Ocalan. They note that the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan, continues to be imprisoned for life in Istanbul. He is being tortured, yet the international community remains a silent observer. They are demanding that the UN take measures to alter Ocalan's detention conditions.
