Askeran Resident Captured and Tortured After Getting Lost

A resident of the Aygestan community got lost while walking to Askeran and was captured by Azerbaijanis. Following a criminal case initiated regarding the incident characterized by national hatred, he reportedly suffered repeated assaults causing physical and psychological suffering.

The Artsakh Investigative Committee reported that the criminal case was opened in the Askeran district's investigative department on December 29, 2021, around 12:00 PM. The incident involved a resident of the Aygestan community, A.V., who got lost and entered a territory controlled by Azerbaijan's armed forces. He was then captured by a group of individuals who repeatedly assaulted him due to national hatred, inflicting numerous blows to different parts of his body, causing physical and psychological trauma as well as health damage in violation of articles 118, part 2, clauses 5 and 7 of the Artsakh criminal code.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
