In the Dmanisi region of Georgia (Kvemo Kartli), which became the epicenter of a strong earthquake on Sunday night, the building of the Gantiadi village school and about 20 houses have been damaged, according to the local administration. This is reported by Новости Грузия.

Last Sunday, at 22:25 local time, a powerful earthquake occurred in southern Georgia. The magnitude was recorded at 6.2. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Dmanisi municipality (Kvemo Kartli region), 60 kilometers from Tbilisi.

Students of the Gantiadi village school have been attending online classes since February 14. The school administration is awaiting the conclusion of an expert assessment to determine whether the building can be restored or if it needs to be demolished.

If the school's building needs to be demolished, students and teachers will be distributed to neighboring schools. Transportation will be provided by the local authorities.

The respective commission is assessing the damage caused by the natural disaster. Local authorities promise to fully compensate the affected residents for their losses.

Georgia experienced aftershocks throughout the night, with seismologists recording six secondary tremors.

Since yesterday, footage of the earthquake has been circulating online. The video shows the earthquake broadcast live on a Georgian television channel: "A loud noise is heard; the host was not injured and immediately announced, 'It seems like an earthquake.'"
