British Woman Falls in Love with Latvian Defense Minister and Loses £80,000

A British woman has fallen in love with the Latvian Defense Minister, losing £80,000 in the process. This is reported by Lenta.ru: 51-year-old Sharon Bulmer recounted that in 2020, she met a man on Facebook who presented himself as an American soldier named Murphy Townsend. He claimed to be in Syria. The man used a photo of Artis Pabriks, the head of the Latvian Ministry of Defense, for his profile.

The correspondence evolved into strong emotions. Bulmer was unfazed by her beloved’s refusal to communicate via video call. She ended a relationship of nearly 30 years to be with him. Townsend asked her to lend him £1,400 for a flight from Syria to England. After some time, he asked for more money, and then again and again.

As a result, the British woman ended up spending £80,000 (approximately $109,000) on her object of affection, borrowing almost half of that amount. Everything culminated in the fact that her beloved never arrived.
