Armenian Media Ethics Monitoring Body and RRC Sign Memorandum

Today, on February 14, the Radio and Television Commission signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Armenian Media Ethics Monitoring Body, aimed at maintaining professional ethics in the audiovisual media sector, adopting, continuously improving, and applying ethics rules without discrimination.

The Commission reported that by signing the memorandum, the parties have undertaken commitments. In case of the need for expert consulting regarding the application of ethics rules or violations of the regulations, the Commission can request the Monitoring Body to provide expert opinions or conclusions.

Tigran Hakobyan noted in his speech that both state bodies and media organizations in Armenia, along with society, find that the state body is equipped with tools to punish media outlets. However, according to the law on audiovisual media, a completely different approach is anticipated; we are trying to instill in our society that maintaining ethics rules is the responsibility of all of us.

It is noteworthy that at this moment, the Monitoring Body is examining 6 applications submitted by the Commission, and this number is expected to increase after the signing of the Agreement.
