"We Are Not Naive": Cavusoglu on Relations with Armenia
Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu discussed relations with Azerbaijan, emphasizing that the 'Shusha Declaration' has raised the relationship between the countries to a qualitatively new level of strategic cooperation. Çavuşoğlu highlighted that the future and fate of Turkey and Azerbaijan are closely linked.
He pointed out that following the 44-day war, the South Caucasus is facing new realities that pave the way for long-term peace and stability in the region. 'Armenia must take this opportunity and reconsider its positions. The special representatives of Turkey and Armenia will meet in Vienna on February 24. The meeting location has been proposed by Armenia, and we have not opposed it. Turkey discusses steps regarding Armenia at every phase with Baku. Azerbaijan also advocates for long-term peace with Armenia. We are not naive. At the same time, we understand the need for decisive actions,' said Çavuşoğlu.
He added that peace and cooperation must come to the region now. 'We must work on the development of the region by implementing important projects. To do this, all countries should understand each other and participate in the process. No one should be left behind, including Armenia,' Çavuşoğlu stated.
