The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Launches Struggle: Sahakyan Highlights Key Political Direction

The halt of the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process will be one of the main directions of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF)'s political struggle. This was announced by ARF representative and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ishkhan Sahakyan during the event dedicated to the 131st anniversary of the ARF.

"This so-called reconciliation process with Turkey, which will lead to Turkification, must be stopped. And this will be one of the main directions of our political struggle. The Turk, who subjected the Armenian people to Genocide, cannot enjoy himself in the center of Yerevan while we follow this with animalistic instincts. This will not happen, forget it, we will not allow it," said Sahakyan.

The ARF representative declared that the contradictions between them and the authorities are not personal but ideological, stemming from differences in visions for the present and future of Armenia, Artsakh, and the diaspora.

"This is a struggle between two types of people: those who want to remain Armenian, have a state, a homeland, and live with dignity, and those who will carry on regardless of that," he stated.

Sahakyan also referred to the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, noting that while it is an established fact, it is not a verdict. "Agreements exist as long as the conditions that gave rise to them exist. If we change the conditions, the situation will change. We must strive for a new trilateral agreement that will reflect our vital interests," said Sahakyan.

To achieve this, the opposition figure proposed the formation of a nationwide resistance movement within Armenia, Artsakh, and the diaspora to thwart the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation plan.

Sahakyan stated that the ARF is ready to be the vanguard and leader of this struggle.

It should be noted that the event dedicated to the 131st anniversary of the ARF was held at the Dvin Hall complex, attended by former Armenian Presidents Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sargsyan, former Artsakh Presidents Arkadi Ghukasian and Bako Sahakyan, former Prime Ministers Vazgen Manukyan, Hrant Bagratyan, and Khosrov Harutyunyan, leaders of the opposition factions “Armenia” and “I Have Honor” Seyran Ohanyan and Artur Vanetsyan, opposition lawmakers, Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, and representatives of other extra-parliamentary political forces.
