Opposition Will Not Nominate Presidential Candidate: 'Hraparak'
'Hraparak' newspaper reports that the opposition has decided not to nominate a candidate for president. Following the resignation of Armen Sargsyan, a lengthy discussion ensued, resulting in a faction within the opposition prevailing that has always favored inaction to avoid being accused of legitimizing the agendas put forth by the authorities. Specifically, the supporters of not nominating a candidate included Andranik Tevanyan and Arthur Ghazinyan. Even the argument that this would provide an opportunity to use the platform and showcase the ineptitude of the governmental candidate did not sway their decision.
Today, the two opposition factions will present a joint statement. Earlier, it was reported that such a resolution was possible, but the constructive wing insisted that staying in parliament under these circumstances is pointless, and that they should surrender their mandates.
