During his visit to Kyiv, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan greeted the honor guard with the words considered to be the slogan of Ukrainian nationalists, 'Glory to Ukraine.' This moment was captured live on air.

In response, Ukrainian soldiers traditionally greeted the Turkish leader with 'Glory to the heroes.' Later, President Erdoğan mentioned that he spoke a greeting in Ukrainian, as it is an official phrase in that country. Erdoğan stated that everyone arriving in Ankara greets with 'Merhaba Asker!' ('Hello, soldier'), and he sees nothing wrong with his greeting.
