More Than 100 Years of Armenia's Natural Resources Could Be Depleted in 10-15 Years: "Fact"

The newspaper "Fact" reports that if this continues, in 10-15 years we will be left with empty hands. We will exhaust 100 years of resources and cause irreversible damage to the environment, as well as to the nearby villages and communities, where a process of depopulation will begin. This concern was expressed by Silva Adamyan, president of the "Ecological Public Union" NGO.

Yesterday, commenting on the recent statements of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Roman Trotsenko, a member of the board of directors of "Geopromining Gold," about constructing a copper smelting plant in Armenia, Adamyan specifically stated, "Recently, the Prime Minister spoke about building a new copper smelting plant. We know that during the Soviet era, there was a copper smelting plant in Kajaran, but it was closed due to health-related issues. This is a quite serious production with significant emissions, which requires a substantial amount of money and serious investments to implement technical measures to protect the environment. However, it is planned that all the copper of the Republic of Armenia will be brought to this smelting plant, and the entire operation should take place there.

The volumes are enormous. Moreover, if this continues, in 10-15 years, we will be left with nothing, we will give everything to the people who are engaged in business, and we will sit in front of an empty bowl. We will consume the 100-year resources and cause irreversible damage to the environment, nearby villages, and communities, where the depopulation process will begin. This is quite alarming for us. We have also expressed these concerns in our letters addressed to ZPMK, which remain unanswered."
