NHRA Addresses Facebook Over Blocking of Accounts Sharing Monte Melkonyan's Images and Writings
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia has sent a letter to Facebook regarding the blocking of accounts of users who have shared images of national hero Monte Melkonyan and writings about him. This information has been communicated by the Defender's office.
It was specifically emphasized that Facebook’s policy damages freedom of speech on social media, especially considering that Monte is regarded as an example of patriotism, virtue, and self-sacrifice for our people.
The Defender's office has analyzed and presented to Facebook evidence that Monte is discussed in school and university textbooks.
Accompanying evidence of blocked or restricted accounts or pages has also been provided.
