Baku Has Requirements for Signing Peace Agreement
The negotiations for signing a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan must proceed in accordance with international law. This was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department, during a webinar organized by the Caspian Policy Center titled "30 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between the USA and China," as reported by RIA Novosti.
“This agreement (the peace treaty with Armenia) must be based on the fundamental norms and principles of international law, particularly the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. The region requires a new branding strategy. Azerbaijan is ready to play its role in the integration of the South Caucasus region,” said Hajiyev.
He also emphasized that new transportation corridors that will open in the region could help lift Armenia out of its blockade and transform it into a country with extensive land connections.
