After the Speech of the Catholicos and the Prime Minister, the Song Familiar with the Chorus 'Я ворона, ты ворона' Was Heard: A Warning Issued to the Director of H1
On New Year's Eve, immediately following the speeches of the Catholicos and the Prime Minister, Public Television aired the performance of the popular medley 'Wedding' by Mkoy and Erik, featuring the chorus 'Я ворона, ты ворона,' in a somewhat intoxicated and slurred manner. Although numerous publications addressed this disgraceful incident, including articles in our newspaper, there has been no official clarification regarding why the state-funded First Channel filled its New Year broadcast with such content, whose choice it was to ring in the New Year with that specific performance, and what message they intended to convey to the public, writes Hraparak.am.
The media outlet reports: 'It turns out that the Public Broadcaster’s council discussed the issue of the New Year’s broadcast and issued a warning to the executive director of Public Television, Hovhannes Movsisyan.'
Vahram Martirosyan, a member of the Public Broadcaster’s council, confirmed this information in a conversation with the media. The council responded quickly, initially demanding an explanation, and then discussed the issue separately, ultimately issuing a warning. He also mentioned that the television director has taken responsibility, acknowledging their fault.
When asked who made the decision to air that performance, V. Martirosyan stated that the council was not fully aware of what should go on air within the framework of the concert program. They primarily focus on developing overall policy and approving the broadcast schedule. 'By the way, council members individually held the view that these musical numbers were not suitable for New Year’s Eve. We discussed it and decided that a warning should be issued to the director.'
As for how the director justified the choice of that musical number, V. Martirosyan noted, 'Overall, these performances were related to the screening of the film 'Our Yard' and were part of the promotional campaign for that film. However, right after the New Year’s speeches by the Prime Minister and the Catholicos, they left a completely different impression. In that context, they were not well-received by the public, and it was indeed inappropriate for such promotional campaigns to be aired during Public Television's peak viewership period, especially with content that seemed to have a parodic nature.'
