“Armenia Remained Independent After November 9 Thanks to Two Years of Democracy,” Says Alen Simonyan

During an interview, host Petros Ghazaryan reminded the acting president of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, that the former president accused him of burying democracy, fostering corruption, dividing the people into black and white, and normalizing insults in the National Assembly.

“Democracy is the value that saved the statehood of the Republic of Armenia and plays a significant role in terms of Armenia’s security. The events that occurred after November 9 crossed a red line, but did not pose a threat to statehood because of those two years of democracy prior to that. During the war, the internet was not disconnected for even a minute. We did not beat people in the hallways or throw them in jail for putting up a Christmas tree. All of this allowed us to maintain Armenia as an independent entity. I am proud that today we have a level of democracy that is appreciated in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,” he stated.
