One of the 21 Hero Boys of the Artillery Division: Ruben Poghosyan and His Story

Yerevan State Medical University rector Armen Muradyan wrote on his Facebook page: "Our contemporary heroes". Ruben Poghosyan's name is forever etched in the medical university, his memory remains vivid.

Ruben Poghosyan, a student at the Faculty of Dentistry, served in one of the military units in Artsakh as an artillery sniper. During the 44-day war, he actively participated in battles fought to defend the homeland, at the hot spots of the front line: Vazgenashen, Hadrut, Varanda (Fizuli), Jrakhan (Jabrayil), Ara Mountain (Juvaarlu). Thanks to his skilled marksmanship and the bravery of his comrades, the military tasks assigned to them were carried out properly, inflicting losses on the enemy in armored vehicles, artillery, firing positions, and more than ten infantry casualties.

Ruben Poghosyan, one of the 21 hero boys of the artillery division, was killed on October 12, 2021, in the Varanda area of Hadrut. He fought alongside his friends against the enemy, becoming immortalized as a hero. One year after the war, on November 2, 2021, his remains and those of ten of his comrades were transferred to the Armenian side. Ruben Poghosyan was laid to rest on December 3 in the Yerablur Military Pantheon.

For displaying exceptional bravery and courage while defending the state border of the Republic of Artsakh during the large-scale military operations unleashed by the opponent starting on September 27, 2020, soldier Ruben Arsen Poghosyan was posthumously awarded the Order of Combat Cross, 2nd Class.

The contemporary hero was born in Berd, Tavush province. He studied at Berd's Secondary School No. 1 and then at the Secondary School named after Marusya Saghumyan. He also graduated from Berd's art school. He was skilled in eastern martial arts. He was guided by Garegin Nzhdeh's words: "Be a knight first towards yourself," which became his path to immortality.
