«I Don’t Know If I Should Be Here or There»: Alen Simonyan
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, who has assumed the powers of the President of Armenia since February 1, is currently trying to understand what urgent functions need to be performed.
In response to Sputnik Armenia's question about whether there are any laws or decisions within the framework of presidential powers that will be published in the near future, Simonyan stated that he does not know yet.
“Today, I got acquainted with the staff, toured the building, and learned about the conditions. I want to understand what functions are urgent at this moment. I am currently occupied with those issues,” said Simonyan in the National Assembly.
He emphasized that there is a legislative gap regarding performing the duties of both the Speaker of the National Assembly and the President of Armenia simultaneously.
“I don’t know if I should be here or there. I continue to be a Member of Parliament. I feel more at home here (referring to the National Assembly). I will probably spend part of the day there, but I will mainly be here because I see myself here and want to continue being a member of Parliament. They say that I do not currently have the right to vote, although I do not cease to be a member of Parliament, and this is not quite regulated in legislative terms,” Simonyan added.
