"I Am a Good Predictor": Trump Calls for Caution
Former President Donald Trump has called on everyone to closely monitor the developments between China and Taiwan following the Beijing Winter Olympics. At the same time, the former occupant of the White House is confident that he is a "good predictor." It is worth noting that the Winter Olympics will commence in Beijing next week.
The former state leader did not specify what exactly he means, but emphasized that during his administration, the Chinese authorities would not even consider devising a plan to invade the rebellious island.
"I didn't even discuss this with Leader Xi (Xi Jinping – ed.). See what happens after the Olympics. I am a good predictor. Watch what happens with Taiwan and China immediately after the Olympic Games," Trump stated at a rally in Texas.
Regarding the escalation of international tensions, he attributed the cause to the incompetence of current President Joe Biden. "Our leaders are a joke; they have no idea what they are doing," stated the former president.
As Trump noted, what is happening militarily around the world today would hardly be the case if, according to him, the elections had not been rigged and there was a different president in the U.S. "If I were sitting in the Oval Office, Iran would be ready to sign a new nuclear deal with the U.S. within a week after the elections, Putin would never have moved troops near Ukraine, and China would never have thought about invading Taiwan," Trump said.
It is recalled that official relations between the Chinese central government and its island province were severed in 1949 when the Kuomintang forces, led by Chiang Kai-shek, retreated to Taiwan after losing the civil war against the Communist Party of China. Practical and unofficial contacts resumed between mainland China and the island in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, the parties began to communicate through two NGOs: the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits in Beijing and the Taipei Foundation for Exchanges Across the Taiwan Straits.
