‘What am I, unworthy of sanctions?’ Lavrov jokes
If Washington decides to implement a new package of sanctions against Moscow, which American figures are proposing, it would be tantamount to breaking off bilateral relations. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in response to a question from Roman Babayan, a commentator for the ‘Moscow Speaks’ radio station.
In response to Babayan's question about the recent continuous statements from Washington regarding sanctions against the entire Russian leadership, including the president and even the foreign minister, Lavrov jokingly replied, “What does ‘even’ mean? What am I, unworthy of sanctions?”
It is worth noting that on January 25, a senior White House official announced that the financial sanctions the United States intends to impose against Russia in the event of escalation in Ukraine would be more severe than the sanctions of 2014.
