VIDEO: What is happening at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border? Recent footage
The Kyrgyz Border Service has called on Tajikistan to cease fire and resolve contentious issues at the negotiation table.
It should be noted that the Tajik side is currently transferring heavy equipment and personnel to the conflict zone at the border with Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the Border Service of the National Security State Committee of Kyrgyzstan, according to TASS.
"The Director of the Border Service of the National Security State Committee, Major General Ularbek Sharshiev, stated that it is the Tajik side that is not stopping the fire; moreover, they continue to pull heavy weaponry and personnel towards the border," the statement said.
The total number of injured from both sides has reached 17. Among the injured are 13 Tajiks, including 11 military personnel (one in serious condition) and two civilians, while four people have been injured on the Kyrgyz side. This information was reported by Sputnik Tajikistan, referencing the hospital in Spitamen.
It is also noted that evacuations of residents are being carried out in border areas of Tajikistan.
Recall that the Kyrgyz Border Service reported that exchanges of fire started between Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards. According to the agency's information, the Tajik side is using grenade launchers and mortars, and the cause of the conflict has been the closure of the road connecting the cities of Isfana and Batken by Tajik military.
The border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has frequently become a conflict zone due to disputes between local residents and border guards. This is mainly caused by undefined sections where it is difficult to determine how the state borders run.
