Driver Crashes into Rocks and Falls into Gorge: Car Accident in Kotayk Province

On January 27, a major car accident occurred in Kotayk Province. Around 11:00 PM, 53-year-old Mikhail Kotanjyan, a resident of Aragatsotn Province, lost control of his Mercedes vehicle on the 11th kilometer of the Nor Geghi–Yeghvard highway, crashed into rocks, and fell 20 meters into a gorge.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan reporting from the scene, Kotanjyan was rescued with great difficulty by the Yeghvard firefighting and rescue service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and a team of on-duty doctors from Yeghvard Hospital promptly arrived at the site, where they initially provided first aid before transferring the injured individual to Armenia Medical Center. He is currently in extremely critical condition.

Officers from the 1st platoon of the 3rd battalion of the 2nd traffic police battalion, led by platoon commander Artur Petrosyan and squad commander Tigran Kotanjyan, arrived promptly at the scene. The investigative work was led by senior investigator Karlen Bagyan of the same battalion, who is preparing materials regarding the incident. An operational group from the Nairi Police Department was also serving on-site.
