Video: How Tourists Spent the Night at Istanbul Airport
Yesterday, due to heavy snowfall, operations at Istanbul Airport were suspended, but as of today, they are beginning to return to normal with 131 flights scheduled for Wednesday.
It is worth noting that operations at Istanbul Airport were paralyzed due to intense snowstorms, with reports indicating that nearly 50 cm of snow has accumulated. According to the latest weather forecasts, the snowfall is expected to continue for several more days.
As a result of the adverse weather conditions, a total of 729 flights were suspended, including 341 incoming and 388 outgoing flights. Tourists found themselves in a state of blockade at the airport, and organized a protest on-site, complaining about the poor conditions.
International media reports indicate that basic provisions were not provided for the stranded tourists. Many were forced to sleep on the cold floor without food or water.
The tourists have demanded that they be accommodated in hotels.
