Tokayev Removes Nazarbayev's Associate from CEC Chair Position
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has dismissed Berik Imashev from the position of Chairman of the Central Election Commission. This information was reported by Lenta.ru, citing the president's press service.
Following Imashev's removal, Senator Nurlan Abdirov has been appointed as the new head of the CEC. Imashev is known to be a close associate of Kazakhstan's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and is the father-in-law of Nazarbayev’s eldest daughter, MP Dariga Nazarbayeva.
Earlier, Nazarbayev's sons-in-law were relieved of their positions at Kaztransgas and Kaztransoil. The ex-husband of the former president’s middle daughter has also stepped down as head of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
