South Korea Settles Iran's UN Debt of Millions

The government of South Korea has settled Iran's debt to the UN, amounting to $18 million. This was stated on the website of South Korea's Ministry of Planning and Finance.

According to Russia Today, the payment was made using Iranian frozen assets held in South Korean banks.

It is noted that Iranian authorities approached the South Korean leadership with a request to use the frozen assets to pay the country's debt to the UN, in an effort to prevent the loss of Tehran's voting rights in the General Assembly due to the debt.
