Rio de Janeiro Carnival Delayed Due to Omicron Variant Spread

The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo has been postponed due to the spread of the Omicron variant, reports Lenta.Ru referencing CNA. Originally scheduled for February, it has now been moved to April.

The decision was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As explained by Daniel Sorans, head of the Rio de Janeiro Health Department, the sanitary situation in the city does not allow for mass events to take place as planned.

According to publications, Brazil is currently seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases. In the past week, the country has recorded an average of 120,000 new cases daily.
