Car Accident in Yerevan: 1 Dead, 2 Injured
On January 16, a serious and tragic car accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 03:50, at the intersection of Vazgen Sargsyan, Khorenatsi, and Beirut streets, a collision took place between a Mercedes S500, driven by 29-year-old Davit Hovhannisyan from Syunik Province, and an Opel vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Hakob Baghdasaryan from Yerevan.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the two drivers and a passenger of the Opel, 52-year-old Srbuhi Avagyan from Tavush Province, were transported with injuries to the number 1 university hospital.
The police patrol squad of the Yerevan garrison was promptly on the scene, led by Squadron Commander Aram Dadoyan and platoon commander Gevorg Torosyan. Emergency medical teams from Yerevan were also quickly dispatched to the site.
Rescuers and police found the driver and passenger of the Opel outside the vehicle, having been thrown out from the impact of the crash. Police officers Norik Manukyan and Gor Hayrapetyan cordoned off the area while waiting for the head of the traffic accident investigation department Grigor Avetisyan and senior investigator to arrive. Meanwhile, a report came from the hospital indicating that the Opel driver had died due to a lack of consciousness, while the driver of the Mercedes had left the hospital.
A criminal case was initiated based on the decision of A. Adamyan, with charges relating to parts 2 of Article 242 and 1 of Article 243.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. By the investigator's order, the vehicles were moved to a secured area of the Yerevan patrol service.
The photojournalist reports that as a result of the collision, both the Mercedes and Opel left the roadway and ended up in the area of the park dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan.
