On January 11, as a result of provocations carried out by Azerbaijani units in the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, soldier Vahan Vachgani Babayan (born in 2003), who was from the city of Hrazdan in the Kotayk province, lost his life. The 19-year-old conscripted soldier Vahan was the current champion of adult taekwondo in Armenia and a participant in the European Championship, as well as a champion in the youth category.

Vahan had been drafted into the army in the summer of 2021. Armen Ayvazyan, President of the Youth Council of the Armenian War and Veterans Committee "We are the heirs of victory," published Vahan's letter to his brother Volodya on his Facebook page, writing: "VAHAN VACHGANI BABAYAN, Such a boy has become immortal...
