EU Comments on Situation in Kazakhstan

The European Union is ready to assist Kazakhstan in resolving the crisis. This was stated by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell. The corresponding statement was published on the EU website.

“We are concerned about the violence that has erupted in Kazakhstan following peaceful demonstrations, which is an important partner for the European Union under the ongoing Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, as well as for regional stability. We deeply regret the loss of human life and strongly condemn the widespread acts of violence. It is crucial to prevent further escalations, avoid any provocation of violence, exercise maximum restraint, and refrain from exploiting unrest for other purposes. We are prepared to offer assistance in achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Any external military support must respect Kazakhstan's sovereignty and independence, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens. We call on the Kazakh authorities to uphold their commitments during this difficult time, including respect for human rights and the fundamental freedoms of their citizens, particularly regarding the freedoms of assembly, speech, and the media,” the statement said.
