4-Year-Old Girl Killed in Almaty; Bullet Strikes Head

A 4-year-old girl has died in Almaty as a result of unrest, with reports stating a bullet struck her in the head, according to several media outlets referencing the children's ombudsman. Arozhan Sayin has revealed that the girl passed away on January 6.

The vehicle she was in came under fire while she was with three other children on Alma-Ata's Seyfulin Street. The girl, identified as Korkemai, was killed while traveling with her uncle to purchase groceries, passing by a square. Besides Korkemai, older children were also in the car.

Two individuals were injured, with one of the children currently in intensive care.

Kazakh journalists have noted that the exact number of casualties from the protests and unrest in Almaty remains unknown. Reporters spoke to people waiting outside a morgue, looking to identify their loved ones. Most had lost relatives on January 6. Soldiers guarding the morgue reportedly threatened those filming with weapons.
