Rockfall in Arzni Gorge: Risk of Collapse
Today, January 8, an emergency incident occurred in the Kotayk region. At approximately 13:05, the 911 crisis management center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report that a rockfall had occurred on the Abovyan-Arzni-Nor Geghi highway, causing the road to become one-way.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, a firefighting and rescue team from the Abovyan unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations promptly arrived at the scene. It was discovered that the rockfall was caused by water flow. Fortunately, preliminary reports indicate there are no injuries.
Traffic police personnel from the 2nd police battalion's 3rd company are currently on duty at the location. Representatives of the Kotayk regional administration and the road management company have also arrived, and they are using a tractor to clear the fallen rocks from the road. However, this issue should not be considered resolved, as there remains a risk of further collapses at any moment.
