Disaster Occurred in 2016: Solution to Artsakh Issue Intended to be Transferred to UN Security Council, Says Pashinyan
What are the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh, and will Armenia raise the issue of the de-occupation of Shushi and Hadrut? These questions were posed during an online press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Pashinyan emphasized the importance of informing the public about all layers of the negotiation process and drew attention to a particular topic: during any negotiations, Nagorno-Karabakh has never been considered purely an Armenian entity, and the rights of Azerbaijanis living in Nagorno-Karabakh have never been disputed, as was the protection of their rights included in the discussions.
“Today statements are being made that have nothing to do with the content of the negotiations that existed in 2018, or they take a sentence and turn it into a banner, but that package is not comprised of a single sentence. Nagorno-Karabakh has been perceived and considered as an Armenian and Azerbaijani entity at least in terms of population,” he said.
Pashinyan mentioned that three packages of negotiations were presented in 2016, where for the first time there was no inclusion of a sentence regarding Nagorno-Karabakh receiving an interim status. “But the disaster is not this. In those packages that are promoted by the Armenian side, no one mentions that the question of clarifying the situation and status of Nagorno-Karabakh has been transferred to the UN Security Council. The UN Security Council, after consulting with all parties, has decided that the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh question is the responsibility of the international community,” he stated.
Pashinyan recalled that the UN Security Council recognized Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and inviolability of borders in 2016.
