VIDEO: Brazilian Citizen Smuggles Cocaine Worth $600,000 into Armenia
As a result of the consistent monitoring efforts of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Department of the State Revenue Committee, a significant case of drug smuggling has been uncovered.
Recently, a joint operation involving employees from the Customs Anti-Smuggling Department, the Western Customs Office, and the National Security Service was conducted. This led to a customs inspection of a Brazilian citizen arriving at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport via a flight route from Sao Paulo to Dubai to Yerevan, along with his accompanying luggage.
During the customs inspection of the passenger's luggage, two packages containing a white powdery substance identified as cocaine were discovered. These packages were hidden within specially prepared compartments in the internal parts of his luggage.
The total weight of the seized cocaine amounted to 1,721 grams, with a market value exceeding $600,000.
Following this discovery, materials have been prepared in the Customs Anti-Smuggling Department, and the foreign national was taken into custody by the investigative department of the State Revenue Committee at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport. The Brazilian citizen has been arrested.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 267.1, Part 1 and Article 266, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.
Employees of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Department and the National Security Service are continuing relevant measures to identify any other individuals connected to the case.
