Who Will Become the Envoy for Dialogue with Turkey

A special representative will be appointed for dialogue with Turkey, who will be the Vice President of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan. This was reported by yerkirmedia.am.

The media outlet notes: “Rubinyan is a founding member of the ‘Civil Contract’ party, and from 2015 to 2017, he was a member of the board and the press secretary. In May 2018, without holding a diplomatic rank, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. In December, he became a deputy with the ‘My Step’ alliance list.

Notably, in June 2019, Rubinyan's scandalous vote as Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, where he accidentally voted against the right of the Russian delegation to restore its voice in the PACE, raised eyebrows. Today, he is set to be appointed as the negotiator for dialogue with Turkey. It is also possible that Russia may have a representative in this format. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Armenia had approached Russia to play a mediating role in the relations between Yerevan and Ankara, adding that Russia is interested and has made efforts to resolve Armenian-Turkish relations.”

Auroranews attempted to get a comment from Vice President of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan, on the topic, but as of this moment, our calls have gone unanswered.
