Wife of Captive Speaks with Husband: What She Revealed

On November 16, affected families of soldiers captured due to Azerbaijani aggression along the eastern border of Armenia had been unable to receive concrete information from the authorities regarding their relatives for almost three weeks. Some were uncertain whether their loved ones were indeed in captivity.

Recently, Azerbaijan confirmed the list of detainees, enabling representatives from the Red Cross to visit and verify the status of all confirmed prisoners of war in Baku.

On November 16, a soldier captured from Shirak established contact with his family nearly three weeks later. This was reported to "Pashtinfo" by the soldier’s wife. In a conversation lasting a few minutes, the captive did not disclose much information. "We talked to him. He called via WhatsApp, but without a video call. We spoke for about two or three minutes; he said they are fine, everything is normal—nothing more," she shared.

According to the soldier's wife, 21 soldiers are still being held in Baku, captured on the same day, November 21. She is also in contact with the families of other soldiers captured that day, some of whom have also received surprise calls from their loved ones.

She mentioned that the existence of several missing soldiers has been confirmed, and many of their families have also re-established contact with them. There are circulating reports that another group of detainees may be returned on December 15, as noted by the wife of the captive, adding that this will become clearer after the meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev.

"We don't know anything from the work. We are waiting. We call, and they say to wait until the Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting on the 15th, after that it will be clearer, nothing will be known before that," she said.

Previously, it was announced that the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to meet in December in Brussels during the Eastern Partnership Summit of the EU.

The captive's wife also commented on a statement from the Investigative Committee, which mentioned that four out of ten prisoners who returned to Armenia from Azerbaijani captivity were detained for abandoning positions and fleeing during the clashes on November 16 in the Syunik and Vayots Dzor border zones. According to her, it was premature to disseminate such information.

"I have contact with their families; I believe that such arrests should not have happened immediately now," she asserted.

The wife of the captured soldier had earlier reported that she recognized her husband from a photo disseminated by Azerbaijani channels on November 16, learned he was captured, and subsequently posted about it on social media. Following this, the Azerbaijani side began to actively share videos featuring her husband.
