The Crisis Related to Arthur Ghazinyan Resolved by the 'Hayastan' Faction: Kocharyan

The opposition may lose the position of Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Defense and Security Committee if it continues not to nominate a candidate. This was stated today by the Chairman of the Committee, Andranik Kocharyan, during an extraordinary session of the committee.

“According to Article 138 of the NA Rules of Procedure, this authority passes to the political force with the largest coefficient, that is, 'Civil Contract'. Clause 12 of the article clearly states: 'If the faction does not nominate a candidate for the vacant position of the NA Speaker or his Deputy within the set timeframe, the right to nominate a candidate for that position passes to the faction with the largest coefficient based on the calculation principle of the factions' coefficients under part 4 of this article,'” said Kocharyan.

However, the Committee Chairman announced that, despite their legal right, 'Civil Contract' has not nominated a candidate today. “This indicates that we are not rushing to immediately take the vacant position available to the opposition, and we expect that within this week the 'Hayastan' faction will reach a consensus with 'Honorary Have' and present us potential options,” Kocharyan stated.

It should be noted that the members of the two opposition factions did not participate in today’s committee meeting. It is recalled that for the position of Deputy Chairman of the NA Defense and Security Committee, the 'Hayastan' faction had nominated Arthur Ghazinyan 14 times, but the majority in the NA had rejected him 14 times. In the meeting on December 7, 'Hayastan' did not nominate any candidates, thus expressing its attitude towards the ruling force that had rejected their candidate 14 times.
